What is the CAN bus?
Today's radio or navigation systems not only play back the music of the radio or navigation commands, but are also deeply networked with the vehicle's electronics. This communication structure, called CAN-Bus, connects ECUs, sensors, multimedia devices and much more.
Therefore, when replacing the factory radios / notifications, a vehicle-specific CAN bus adapter is required to maintain / keep the communication of all devices integrated in the CAN bus intact.
What can the CAN bus adapter do?
These active radio adapters are required in vehicles with CAN bus (also known as "GM Databus", "GMLan" or "LAN bus" for general engines) to exchange the standard radio or navigation system for an aftermarket device.
The adapters read the CAN bus, generate all required signals and control the original sound system with the audio signal of the new radio / navigation system. They are also required in many vehicles to connect the steering wheel remote control.
